Health & Wellness
Providing health education and support services to assist our church family and our community in taking care of their health.
An interrelationship exists between one's mind, body, and spirit. When any one of these parts is affected, the whole is affected as well. The Health & Wellness Ministry's mission is to provide information and knowledge that will help raise awareness of the relationship between health and the spirit.
Health & Wellness TeamSome of the individuals serving on the Health & Wellness Ministry team are medical professionals or have health or medical-related experience, and others just have an interest in helping our congregation and community be healthy. The ministry welcomes those who’d like to be involved on a regular basis, as well as those who’d like to help on an ”as needed” basis with particular events or needs. As you read through the services provided by the team, you will see there are many opportunities to help simply by making phone calls, providing or serving food, coordinating volunteers, and greeting donors and screening participants, as examples.
Parish Nurse
The Parish Nurse program is an integral part of the Health & Wellness Ministry at Scioto Ridge. A Parish Nurse is a registered nurse who responds to the health needs of people within a congregational setting. Our Parish Nurse serves on the Health & Wellness Ministry team and helps to identify the many health and wellness needs within the faith community and coordinates resources within the congregation. The Parish Nurse program is made possible through covenant between Ohio Health Faith Community Nursing and Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church.
The Parish Nurse can help individuals in our church family with health-related questions; health support during recovery from illness; support during times of crisis, loss or bereavement; provide assistance in understanding new medications, medical equipment or diet plans prescribed by your doctor; and provide referrals to community and professional resources.
Our Parish Nurse is Barb Williamson, R.N., and she may be reached at (614) 451-2957.
Health Screenings
Blood pressure screenings are held after worship services on a regular basis so that our church family can monitor an existing condition or determine if they might be at risk. Information about preventing and treating high blood pressure is offered at the screenings. Individuals who would like to be monitored more frequently than the scheduled screenings can make arrangements through the Parish Nurse. The next Blood Pressure Screening is: April 27/28, 2013
The 2013 Schedule is:

Medical Equipment Lending Network
The ministry maintains a list of medical equipment that individuals in our church family are willing to loan to others with a temporary need. This includes items such as crutches, walkers, bedside commodes, nebulizers and surgical boots, to name a few. To find out if an item is available for loan and who to contact, please call the Parish Nurse. The ministry does not store equipment nor make arrangements for loaning items. If you have an item you’d be willing to lend someone in our church family, please contact the Parish Nurse.
Exercise Classes
The Health & Wellness Ministry supports body fitness by encouraging exercise and sppiritual fitness. Currently two exercise classes are offered at Scioto Ridge:
On Tuesday evenings at 6:30, Strength, Flexibility and Balance classes are offered.
On Wednesday evenings at 7:00, a boot-camp style exercies class is offered.
Both classes have a component of Christian prayer and devotions. For more information, email pam@srumc.org or go to the Exercise page.
